Public Artwork
2020
Increasingly, the boundaries between online and offline experiences are transforming the urban realm and the ways in which we experience it. New technologies are creating endless opportunities to weave artworks in the public realm in innovative and unexpected ways, allowing new audiences to shift from passive observation to immersive and interactive participation that expands beyond the gallery context and site-specific works.
Futurecity has helped clients be at the forefront of this transformation, curating digital and immersive artworks in the public realm and delivering cultural placemaking strategies that help clients embrace the cultural potential of new technologies. Futurecity is behind some of Europe’s most ambitious digital artworks. From assembling the winning team for Illuminated River project that will deliver a connected digital artwork spanning 12 bridges of the Thames, to the first permanent art commission for digital art pioneers Random International at Albert Embankment. Futurecity’s Cultural Placemaking Strategy for Wembley Park is seeing it become one of the capital’s optimal public realm performance platforms featuring digital surfaces, embedded sound systems and site-wide Wi-Fi, which can all support new cultural events.
