Barangaroo
Public Art & Cultural Plan
2017
Futurecity was commissioned by The Star Entertainment Group to undertake preliminary research and cultural mapping of the Pyrmont area – to better understand the existing landscape and explore the potential opportunity areas to guide further cultural development and activation in the precinct.
Sydney is undergoing immense change, with Pyrmont having the potential to become a nexus in this transformation – a unique place with an iconic history, a growing innovation scene, a mixed community of tech workers, students and long-standing residents. Pyrmont also has a major role as part of Sydney’s premier entertainment district in Darling Harbour. It is therefore in a great position at a critical moment in Sydney’s development.
Futurecity mapped and analysed the cultural assets and infrastructure of the area, identifying potential industry, tech and education partnerships and undertook a policy review and stakeholder interviews. Our report put forward a set of cultural principles for the area along with opportunities for networked partnerships in Pyrmont. The report also made recommendations for an on-going place strategy and delivery programme. Futurecity’s aim was to help The Star Entertainment Group take stock of the area’s current strengths and weaknesses and review partnership opportunities to enable Pyrmont to take a leading role in the broader transformation of the city.
