StudioRCA at Riverlight is a project space for exhibitions, screenings, performances, seminars and artist residencies run by the Royal College of Art. It provides a supportive platform for RCA students, acting as a test-bed for their ideas and an opportunity to engage with public audiences. The partnership was brokered and developed by Futurecity.
StudioRCA supports Wandsworth’s cultural offer, building on the borough’s programme of arts and culture. Funded by St James, the space supports the long-term cultural strategy for the scheme, animating the public open space and providing the first cultural offer within Nine Elms on the South Bank. It contributes to London’s wider cultural offer by drawing in the local community, visitors, residents and workers to the area and provides a window onto an artist’s practice, letting a public audience experience artwork as it develops. A vibrant programme of public talks, performances and readings are also hosted, enabling the space to become a visual laboratory for new ideas.
To date StudioRCA has worked with over 100 artists during 29 exhibitions and residencies, and it has hosted more than 55 events such as talks, lectures, workshops and performances.
“This fantastic new arts space will help animate Nine Elms on the South Bank and draw the wider Wandsworth community into this new part of the borough. It’s exactly the type of exciting cultural venue we want to create here. The RCA has become a major presence in Battersea in recent years and their move south of the river has brought new jobs and opportunities to local people. I’m delighted they are now taking a stake in Nine Elms.”– Ravi Govindia, leader of Wandsworth Council and co-chair of the Nine Elms Vauxhall Partnership
