Futurecity was commissioned by the St James Group to develop a culture and placemaking strategy for Eastbury House. This strategy complements the overarching VNEB masterplan and supports the ‘Nine Elms on the South Bank’ vision to draw the animation of the Southbank further along the river bank towards Vauxhall and Battersea. The Eastbury Commission, which forms a part of this strategy, intends to appoint a contemporary artist(s) to develop a major art & architecture proposal for the piazza of Eastbury House. The commission will utilise naturalistic elements such as wind and water, to connect the Eastbury House scheme with its environment through a kinetic installation. Located across the river from Tate Britain, The Eastbury Commission will be a cultural beacon for the Albert Embankment. This project continues Futurecity’s relationship with the St James Group, who have a long history of commitment to art and culture in London.
