Futurecity were engaged in 2017 to undertake a targeted analysis of the Hyperdome, a large shopping centre near Brisbane, Australia. The Logan Hyperdome Shopping Centre is the largest shopping centre in Logan City and one of the largest single storey shopping centres in Australia.
Addressing the immediate need for specific cultural placemaking solutions within the shopping centre and dining precinct, Futurecity conducted an initial six-week period of site analysis, workshopping with the client team, and developed an initial set of key projects to set the overall direction of a cultural activation strategy. We also undertook desk-based literature review and analysis of client’s current strategies and plans for Hyperdome, including customer studies and analysis. Futurecity visited the Hyperdome to support and deepen our understanding of the centre and the local community, the Hyperdome’s current program and dynamics, the client’s aspirations, and the opportunities and constraints of the site.
Futurecity collated an initial menu of cultural activation approaches applicable to the Hyperdome, and played back this research via client focused presentations and workshops. Propositions for the key agreed sites were presented, and were articulated within the context of the client’s desired program and overall vision. Futurecity also explored relevant creative practices and cultural organisations in the area, and provided a long list of potential partners aligned to the propositions.
