The Art of Development & The Future of Mabgate
Workshop, discussion, installation and edible landscape
Led by Futurecity in association with East Street Arts
Supported by Leeds Civic Trust
The Art of Development is a conversation and workshop with developers, planners, architects, city development teams and artists to ask the questions about how we want to develop our city for future generations. How do we as citizens better understand the data that paints a picture of why there is a need for more offices, retail units, exhibition spaces, car parks or theatres. Can we better understand each other’s needs and make space for alternative economies, support DIY alongside major chains. Can we collaborate and partner to make space for considering the art of development?
The discussion & workshop will be lead by Futurecity. Futurecity has encouraged the property sector in the UK to use art and culture as part of a toolkit for providing a contemporary narrative for our towns, cities and urban centres. Futurecity have written over 100 placemaking and cultural strategies for the largest brownfield developments and regeneration projects across the UK and mainland Europe including the Nine Elms Opportunity area, White City, Greenwich Peninsula, Earls Court, Canary Wharf and the City of London. We will also be inviting Leeds based artist Helen Russel Brown & Collective SnakeOil will take us through an experience of the Art of development . Be ready to listen, contribute, learn and experience .
