Slipstream Tumblr Lead

A year ago today, Slipstream, a major sculpture by British artist Richard Wilson, was unveiled in the new Luis Vidal designed Terminal 2: The Queen’s Terminal at Heathrow Airport. Set to become one of Britain’s most viewed public sculptures, estimated to be seen by 20 million passengers a year, Slipstream is one of the longest public artworks in Europe at 70 metres.

A book documenting Slipstream’s journey from an idea in the artists’s studio into Heathrow airport is available to read here: you can also download the interactive iBook for interviews, videos and more.

“Richard Wilson’s work focuses on simple ideas that can be easily understood and experienced. With Slipstream, his largest permanent work in the UK to date, he has set out a distinctive narrative for Heathrow: travel is liberating, exhilarating and gravity-defying – and the closest thing to magic for those of us who don’t know how to build or fly a plane.” Mark Davy, Founder at Futurecity and Project Curator
