Futurecity assisted the London Boroughs of Wandsworth and Lambeth in developing a set of nine culture and placemaking principles for Nine Elms on the South Bank. Nine Elms is the most centrally located regeneration opportunity in London situated a mile upstream from the Houses of Parliament.
The Mayor’s planning framework for the area, which includes part of neighbouring Vauxhall, anticipates up to 16,000 new homes and 25,000 new jobs will be created as this prime site is transformed into a world class residential and business quarter. The Nine Cultural Principles include ideas for a collective cultural vision, valuing new green spaces and ecology, architectural excellence, an active public realm, community environment, embracing heritage, commitment to enterprise, learning and innovation and meanwhile uses and activities.
