Formerly known as Kings Reach Tower, this high-rise, mixed-use building is surrounded by major cultural institutions such as Tate Modern, National Theatre, Southbank Centre and the Globe Theatre. Futurecity’s approach created a long-term curatorial scope with key opportunities for the arts to be part of the buildings design and surrounding public realm in collaboration with lead architects KPF and major internationally renowned artists.
As part of this strategy, Futurecity delivered Vertical Shell, a unique site specific sculpture by internationally-renowned artist Tobias Putrih in the lobby of South Bank Tower. Tobias was commissioned to create a structure that integrates with the contemporary architecture and utilises the sheer dimension of the new triple-height residents’ lobby.
For ‘People & Places’, Steve McCurry was commissioned to document the creative people and places of London’s South Bank area. The photographs were used to showcase the creative businesses of the area in a unique publication, a public exhibition and foldout information pamphlet.
