The inaugural exhibition at Paynes & Borthwick Gallery were two works by Rubedo, “Diodicity” and ”Trans_Lux”. The exhibition examined relations between aesthetics, complex geometry, acoustics and synaesthesia, through performance, installation and artefact. The virtual gallery space showed the first of two works. ‘Diodicity’ hovered in mid-air, challenging the viewer to explore its bubble-like and ever-transforming shape and soundscape. This work explored transformation and flux, and was the latest version of an original work, which was shown as the closing performance of Topology at Tate Modern in 2012. The second piece, ‘Trans_Lux’, was entered through a portal within the virtual gallery space, as if being transported through space and time to another world. The work was a fully immersive synaescape, which evolved and responded to the viewer as one passes through it, interacting with its choreographed landscape of light and sound.
