Robert Davies was asked by BAR Honda and the St. James Group to do a commission about Formula One. Having spent a few days testing with the team in Jerez, Spain, it seemed to him that Formula One was in essence about detail. Every employee, be they a driver, designer or engineer, was working to make miniscule improvements to make the car quicker. Their attention to detail was astonishing and for this reason he decided to discard the familiar visual language of F1 and photograph only the details. He spent four days with the team at the French Grand Prix at Magny Cours and visited them several times at their factory in Northamptonshire where they design all the components and assemble the cars. Detail is everything.
