QIC Placemaking Program
Culture & Placemaking Strategy
2018
Futurecity was appointed by Australian corporation QIC’s retail team to develop a comprehensive Public Art Strategy for their premium office and retail development at 80 Collins Street in Melbourne that featured an alchemy of art, design and retail. The development’s Collins Street address represents one of the most desirable neighbourhoods of Melbourne’s East End, at the heart of the city centre and alongside international hotels, luxury retail stores and the city’s longstanding commercial gallery district.
The strategy proposed distinctive strands of digital & sculptural public art commissioning, cultural activation and strategic cultural partnerships across the site to reflect the position and status of 80 Collins. Futurecity incorporated international perspective with in-depth local cultural knowledge to shape a Public Art Strategy that positions 80 Collins as a new benchmark development that invited the cultural infrastructure into the city centre’s most valuable real estate.
Futurecity’s client workshops, site research, case study review and local knowledge, informed an integrated and innovative Public Art Strategy for 80 Collins, considering the scheme in relation to the wider QIC Cultural Placemaking Program, and its broader brand values, whilst shaping a unique strategy that offered authenticity, relevance and activated opportunities for this new cultural destination for Melbourne.
