Kings Cross, Sydney is undergoing a period of transition. Formerly known as the city’s red light district, the area has been home to artists, cabaret clubs and music venues for over 100 years.
Futurecity have completed their Kings Cross Cultural Visioning Exercise for developers Iris Capital. Working as part of a team with SJB and Grimshaw Architects, Futurecity researched the wider context surrounding the development site to draw out its cultural heritage and current creative profile. This audit then informed a series of initial principles and opportunities for threading a cultural DNA throughout the new development, reflecting the unique character and creative future of the area.
