Art for the Square is a one day pop up public exhibition of creative ideas for public space projects that encompass seating, shelter, planting, sculpture, film, colour, and light. The students have worked with professional artists and architectural students from Cambridge University to create imaginative ideas that could enliven and help to improve public space in their local area. The students have focussed on creating ideas for spaces like Cambridge Leisure Square as an important local public space that they use a great deal. Come and immerse yourself in these creative projects and talk to the students about how they have used their creativity to create new ideas for animating public space.

Since January 2013, students at Hills Road Sixth Form College have been learning about the intersection of Art & Architecture in a project led by arts agency Futurecity on behalf of Almaren, developers of The Marque. The project began with some students helping The Marque development team select a professional artist to create a permanent art project to be integrated into The Marque building. The selected artist is Jennifer Tee, and her project will be installed in May 2014. Alongside this the students have been supported by Futurecity to develop their own ideas for their local public space. It is hoped that this project will act as a catalyst for discussion between all the different local parties, with an interest in improving local spaces, about supporting ideas such as these in the future and exploring how they could be implemented.
