Based in South London, Gasworks is a non-profit contemporary visual-arts space that has worked with over 300 artists from 70 countries around the world over the twenty years of its existence, providing subsidised studios and delivering a programme of exhibitions, events, artists’s residencies and educational projects.
Originally a Victorian warehouse built in the late 1800s, Gasworks’ 6,000sq foot building has served as a light industrial space and was later used as a plastic Christmas Tree depot, before being turned into artists’ studios in 1994. is seeking to build two additional studios to house exciting emerging artists in the capital.
They have now been offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy their home of 20 years at a reduced price, which will make it possible for them to upgrade their facilities and create more opportunities for artists and the public.
The two new studios (raising the total number from 11 to 13) will crucially add affordable spaces for young artists in central London
