Futurecity has been appointed by the Cadogan Estate to develop a public art competition and commission for the iconic 1930s façade, part of the sensitive redevelopment of 196-222 Kings Road, opposite Chelsea Town Hall. The scheme will include 25,000 sq. ft of world-class retail space over three floors a large public house, an independent 600 seat (Curzon) cinema with improved disabled access and customer experience, an improved Waitrose store, 47 new homes (for the rental market), high quality office space, and a rooftop bar providing a unique view across Chelsea and beyond.
The plan is to re-energise this central section of the King’s Road Futurecity will work with Cadogan Estate, and PDP architects to place the artwork on historic façade of the original art deco Gaumont Theatre building, introducing the best of modern design in harmony with the heritage surroundings. The redevelopment will bring a wide range of new benefits and will safeguard the long-term vitality and viability of this part of the King’s Road.
