Skystation

Skystation is a permanent, interactive sculptural seating project resulting from an innovative collaboration between artist Peter Newman and Futurecity. Inspired by Le Corbusier’s LC4 Chaise Longue, the Skystation is a circular outdoor artwork with contours intended to fit the human form, it is available in an edition of 100. Skystation was launched at the Hayward Gallery at London’s South Bank in July 2009 and received extensive press coverage.

The prototype Skystation has also been exhibited in Trafalgar Square……St Mary Axe (Lloyds Building)……Canary Wharf , the New Art Centre sculpture park and internationally.The permanent Skystation went on show at 100% Design, London in 2009.

The first permanent installation of Skystation took place in Cambridge in 2010. Commissioned by Miller Homes, Skystation provides the centrepiece of George Nuttall Close Park. The project was launched with a series of school workshops run by cultural agency Flour. www.skystationcambridge.com
