Services: Placemaking Strategy
Futurecity have been appointed by Stanhope PLC and US hedge fund Baupost Group (Development Partners for Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity) to develop a placemaking strategy for a 5.5-acre site opposite St Thomas’ Hospital and close to Waterloo Station.
Royal Street will provide a new mixed use workspace neighbourhood, including incubation of a MedTech cluster, academic researchers, and clinicians, and will become an integral and hugely beneficial part of the London growth economy and local community.
Royal Street is located next to St Thomas’ Hospital. St Thomas’ is one of the major academic research centres and education providers in England as part of King’s Health Partners (KHP). KHP is one of 5 UK Academic Health Sciences Centres alongside Imperial, UCL, Oxford and Cambridge. This co-location of medical and academia, reinforced by excellent transport connectivity, make it an ideal location for a MedTech cluster. Early proposals include office blocks focused on medical technology (MedTech) with lab-enabled floors, affordable workspace underneath the existing railway tracks, 130 homes, cafés, shops, and new public space.
