Originally a market for livestock, fruit and vegetables, this destination strategy redefined Spitalfields as a ‘market of culture’. The strategy proposed naming and designing six new bespoke sculptural gateways, a kinetic light and colour wayfinding system, a signage system for the retail units, wayfinding and signage, a typographic artwork for the electricity sub-station and the right infrastructure for festivals and live events. The arts group Kinetica Museum has set up a new creative base in one of the glass pavilions in the market and a live arts programme has helped to animate the market.
