A 17 minute Crossrail ride to Bond Street has opened up a new urban approach to the development of brown field sites in London’s outer boroughs. On behalf of client St James, and in collaboration with architects John Thompson & Partners , Futurecity’s cultural placemaking approach is exploring how to draw the ‘urban buzz’ to the fringes of the city, while preserving the huge benefits of easy access to the green belt. Our placemaking principles and creative workshops are focused on drawing out the cultural DNA of the district, which includes a rich history of migration and is bordered by the Grand Union Canal, presenting an opportunity to bring London’s thriving creative industries together with England’s canal culture. As contemporary approaches to placemaking, cultural animation and mixed use schemes are applied to London’s outskirts, we’re excited to be on the cusp of this thinking, and to have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of Southall as a unique place rich with culture and creativity.
