Head of Arts

Location – Somerset House, London plus remote working
Duration – This is a permanent role with 6 months’ probation.
Terms – c£65k per annum

THE ORGANISATION:

Futurecity has produced over 250 cultural strategies, 20 cultural partnerships and 250 artist commissions for clients across four continents. Futurecity has championed a generation of multi-disciplinary artists who are transforming the way art is made and presented in the public realm and led the search for artists who enjoy collaboration with other disciplines, whether science, architecture, engineering, or film. Many of our projects include large scale art & architecture interventions in cities and urban centres.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are seeking a Head of Arts to lead our growing Arts Department in delivering significant arts projects in the public realm and developing public art strategies for UK and international clients. This is a senior management role, with responsibility for team delivery, business development and project planning across a diverse portfolio of world-class art commissioning and strategic projects. It sits alongside a Senior Arts Associate. The role would suit an individual with knowledge of the contemporary arts sector, interest working across multi-disciplinary projects, in representing Futurecity in a professional capacity and who has an entrepreneurial and collaborative approach to the arts.

The Head of Department is responsible for arts delivery projects and assigning resourcing to support multiple strategic work and project delivery, to assist the Business Manager and Founder on facilitating new business and preparing bid and RFP proposals. The role will entail leading an Arts Team to ensure they uphold the standard of delivery for the company. This role will include international travel.

YOU:

Essential

  • Significant experience in a similar role
  • Passionate about placemaking and the arts
  • Managerial experience within the arts sector
  • Significant experience in public art commissioning
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Tech-savvy
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint.
  • Able to manage time efficiently and prioritise concurrent tasks.
  • Great interpersonal and influential skills

Desirable

  • Skilled in the Adobe creative suite i.e., InDesign, Illustrator etc
  • Experience with and enthusiasm for International projects.

TASKS:

  • To lead on all public arts projects ensuring projects run to time and on budget and to guide and provide management and mentorship to the Arts team.
  • To support and inform new business opportunities on behalf of the Business Manager and CEO
  • To oversee and prepare arts scopes/proposals for new business.
  • To manage and develop relationships and partnerships with artists, galleries, and cultural organisations.
  • Take responsibility for the pricing and financial structure of projects, bids, tenders where required.
