Futurecity has brokered a partnership between the Royal College of Art and St James at Riverlight, a new development in Nine Elms. A new project space and gallery is anticipated to open in autumn 2014 run by the RCA and curated by award winning artist Kate Davis. The RCA Project Space will provide a supportive platform for RCA students, acting as a visual laboratory for their ideas and an opportunity to engage with a public audience.
It aims to provide a window into an artist’s practice, letting a public audience experience artwork as it develops and transforms over a period of time. Public talks, performances and readings will also be hosted, enabling the space to become a visual laboratory for new ideas. The partnership between St James and the RCA has been developed and managed by cultural consultancy Futurecity.

St James are providing a fully fitted and serviced retail unit, rent free, with an annual funding package for five years. The RCA has an established worldwide reputation for innovation through art and design and already has a presence within Wandsworth Borough itself, with the School of Fine Art based in the Battersea campus, shortly to be joined by the School of Material. The new space at Riverlight will support Wandsworth’s cultural offer, building on the borough’s programme of arts and culture.
