CURATORIAL ASSOCIATES (LONDON-BASED)
Futurecity is seeking freelance Associates to support the development of its Arts and Commissioning Programme.
We are looking for specialists in the development and delivery of multi-disciplinary public art commissions within an urban public realm context, the development and writing of public art implementation plans, meanwhile/interim use project development and delivery, high level international artist liaison, digital arts and creative consultation. We are open to approaches from ‘all rounders’, although would expect these to be able to highlight several areas of particular specialism.
All candidates should be able to demonstrate:
-a good grasp of the relationship between arts and placemaking
-an ability to communicate well in person and on paper
-demonstrable public art delivery experience
-interest in cultural policy
-ability to work both in teams and independently
-good spoken and written English
-eligibility to work in the UK and have the provision to invoice for services
-ability to work in London on a day to day basis if required

COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT / PA POST
Futurecity develops cultural visions for the urban realm. It creates the partnerships, research and thinking that invigorate public space, and shape our cities for the future. Futurecity works internationally to connect city makers with artists, curators, galleries and cultural institutions. From commissioning ambitious public art works to producing strategies that unlock the cultural potential of entire districts, Futurecity operates between art and other disciplines, whether science, architecture or technology. As the curator delivering cultural projects from inception to completion, Futurecity is driven by a talented team, all experts in their field, and interested in championing artists who are changing the way culture is presented in an urban context.
The successful applicant will work as our Comms Assistant and PA under the line management of the Managing Director. This will be a 3-day per week role with the expectation of 2 day split for Comms duties and 1 day for PA duties. This is initially a fixed term contract for 6 months and will be on the London Living Wage rate.
You will have previous experience and knowledge of the art and design industry in the UK and internationally and be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of current trends and discussions on public art, urbanism and contemporary culture. An excellent organiser from a communications or marketing background, you will have great attention to detail and naturally be an efficient communicator. Within this fast-paced environment, you will remain calm under pressure and be able to manage your time effectively being flexible to adapt to the different roles. It’s also essential that you have strong IT skills.
Examples of duties will include:
-Supporting the Managing Director to deliver an evolving PR programme that lands strong messages about Futurecity’s role, as cultural visionary, and a creative shaper of cities
-Working closely with the Head of Strategy and Head of Arts & Commissioning to understand, develop and communicate the Company’s project specific communications and marketing opportunities
-Supporting social media and website activity on a day-to-day basis
-Managing records of our media and VIP contact database
-Web editing, copywriting and collating information, research and news content from the team
-Compiling the Futurecity email news bulletin and developing marketing material with the support of the team
-Assisting with the organisation and running of events, talks, and private views
-Organising and maintaining 2 senior manager diaries and making appointments
-Arranging travel, visas and accommodation on behalf of the Company staff
-Arranging meetings, talks and events on behalf of senior staff
-Taking notes at meetings or providing general assistance during presentations
-Meeting and greeting visitors at all levels of seniority
-Screening phone calls, enquiries and requests, and handling them when appropriate

Title: Financial Controller
Duration: Full time
We are now looking for Financial Controller to join our creative team to work in our London office located in Farringdon. The Financial Controller should take full ownership for the UK Finance function, reporting directly into the Managing Director. This is a hands on role and the ideal candidate will be a fully qualified CIMA/ACCA/ACA Financial Controller responsible for the accounting, reporting, analysis of financial results, forecasting and financial control for the business operations. With working knowledge of how to collate, summarise and evaluate information with a view to reporting back to the Company’s Senior Project Managers, Departmental Heads and Directors on feasibility, efficiency and performance, you should have previous post-qualification experience working as a Financial Controller or Project Accountant within a similar sector such as design agency, architects practice or project driven design consultancy and have experience of working with project management systems.
The Financial Controller will have strategic input into business growth and will be responsible for the delivery of a proactive commercial and management accounting function. You will be responsible for monitoring the progress of projects, investigating variances and providing reports, ensuring that all projects have financial control and that invoices to clients are raised and paid in a timely manner. You will play an active role in managing the company’s finances, as well as offering commercial insight for future projects. This is a standalone position but you will have support from an external accounting advisor where necessary.
As Futurecity has international offices, your familiarity of working across countries and timelines will be invaluable.
Responsibilities to include:
-Working with the Senior Project Managers and Departmental Heads on tenders, fee proposals and competition/bid-related matters to ensure that the pricing of work is in line with charge-out rates providing company financials, insurances and warranties for this purpose
-Accurate and timely monthly closing of financial statements, monthly management accounts and management reporting of results of operations including analysis of results
-Financial planning: annual operating plan, quarterly financial forecasting within the framework of the Company planning and forecasting process, setting and producing yearly budgets/forecasts and review of risk, mitigation and opportunities.
-Reporting to senior management on (i) project profitability; (ii) any opportunities for additional billing; (iii) remaining funds available for projects; (iv) any other relevant matters
-Manage Group cash flow and forecasting
-Completion of all company statutory compliance, including VAT Returns
-Processing payroll run in conjunction with HR
In addition to the above experience, you will have advanced knowledge of Xero Accounting software and be PC and Mac literate. You will possess demonstrable management & leadership experience and have proficient communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
